Obituary

Gelindo Martini Jr.
April 14, 1935 - February 13, 2018

Our loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Gelindo Martini Jr (Sonny), surrounded by family, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 13th after a valiant 2-year battle with cancer.

Our Dad was born on April 14, 1935 in Ogden, Utah. He was the first son born to Gelindo and Carena Martini.

Dad attended West Weber School and graduated from Weber High School in 1953. It was in high school that he met his sweetheart, Beverly Ann Brown. Mom and Dad were married on November 19, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ogden, Utah.

Growing up on a farm, Dad knew that he was going to follow in his father's footsteps and be a dairy farmer. Along with the dairy cows, he raised sugar beets, tomatoes, corn, grain and alfalfa. After many years and a lot of hard work, Dad decided to retire from the dairy business, but his heart was still into farming. It was at this time that he, along with his son Dennis, started raising beef cattle. On Tuesdays you usually would find Dad and Dennis at the cattle auction. Dad spent a lot of time driving back and forth in his truck checking on the cattle and crops. Many friends and neighbors will miss not seeing his truck going up and down the roads.

Dad enjoyed supporting us kids in our school, 4-H, sports and rodeo activities.

Our Italian heritage was very important to Dad. He carried on his father's tradition and recipe for making homemade salami and sausage. This tradition continues today with us kids, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dad was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Trentini- Italian Club of Utah.

Dad and Mom enjoyed bowling, going to the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City and Las Vegas and spending time with their two daughters and two sons, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad also enjoyed his two dogs, Marley and Deuce, and always had a treat for them when he left the house in the mornings.
Dad is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly, daughter, Deborah (Danny) Dickemore, sons, Scott (Jenny) Martini, Dennis (Lucy) Martini, son-in-law, Randy Burger, brother, Dean (Kathy) Martini, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Christine, and his two sisters and their husbands, Aileen & Aldo Segna and Gloria & Bortolo Zanoni.

A visitation for our Dad will be held on Monday, February 19th from 6-8 pm, with the rosary starting at 7:30 pm. at the Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may also visit with the family at the mortuary Tuesday morning, February 20th from 8:30-9:15 am. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4050 S. 3900 W. in West Haven followed by burial in the Ogden City Cemetery.

Our family would like to extend our appreciation to the medical staff and doctors at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Gamma West, Utah Cancer Specialists, Ogden Regional Medical Center and Community Nursing Services. A special thank-you goes to Dr. Carrera at Ogden Regional for his care and compassion and to Michelle for the care she gave to Dad and Mom and the humor she brought to them during these difficult times.
